A Day in the Life of Mark Kruse
As a child when such projects as the John Hancock Tower and Sears Tower were changing the Chicago skyline, Mark Kruse recalls how his engineer father and interior designer/ homemaker mother impressed upon him the imagination and foresight involved in creating such landmarks. Years later, that interest turned into an educational pursuit for college-bound Kruse when he obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Architecture and a Master’s of Architecture, Design Option, from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

College Adopts 'Green' Construction Standard
In an action hailed as nationally significant, the Los Angeles Community College District committed itself Wednesday to use of environmentally sensitive materials and energy-efficient technology as it makes $1.25 billion of improvements over the next six years. The unanimous decision means that as many as 40 new or renovated buildings on the district's nine campuses would include "green" elements - from water-efficient plumbing and solar panels to recycled and environmentally friendly building materials.

Petersen Roof Helps Put Milwaukee Road Depot Back On Track
One of the last long-span, truss-roofed train sheds in the United States is now back on track, thanks in part to a new roof from Petersen Aluminum Corporation. The Milwaukee Road Depot and Train Shed, vacant since the 1970’s, recently opened after a major effort to restore its contribution to the community and preserve its historic significance.
