The DOE has announced the first companies and industrial plants to be qualified under the Superior Energy Performance program. The energy management program is accredited by the ANSI and will serve as a guide for facilities to improve efficiency and maintain competitiveness in today’s market.
One-third of energy use in the United States comes from the industrial/manufacturing sector, and improvements in the energy arena will save energy, create clean energy jobs, and reduce costs.
"This program is helping to lay the groundwork for broad improvements in industrial efficiency in the U.S. and internationally," says Secretary Chu. "By implementing the latest energy management practices and technologies as part of the Superior Energy Performance certification program, these U.S. companies are saving money, reducing carbon pollution and making their businesses more competitive in the global marketplace."
Three companies have been awarded for completion of the certification program:
- Cook Composites and Polymers Co. (Houston, Texas)
- Freescale Semiconductor Inc. (Austin, Texas)
- Owens Corning (Waxahachie, Texas)
These plants that participated in the Superior Energy Performance pilot program will act as examples for the continuation of efficiency initiatives.
