Washington Design Center Announces Schedule for Capital Design Days

Three day event features new collections, talks, book signings and more

 
WDC announces schedule for Capital Design Days

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Washington Design Center is excited to announce its Capital Design Days event schedule, which will feature the newest collections from WDC showrooms, punctuated with talks by design celebrities, book signings and showroom events from April 12-14.

Highlights of this year's event include magazine editor and lifestyle expert Eddie Ross on how designers can style their projects for photography; the renowned designer David Easton on his new book, Timeless Elegance; and a panel discussion on the design legacy of Billy Baldwin.

On April 14, consumers are encouraged to visit the WDC as almost every program that day is open to both the public and trade professionals. The April 14 signature program will feature set decorators from the Michael Douglas film "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" and the television series "Brothers & Sisters." Principal designers from the DC Design House will also share secrets on how they transformed indoor and outdoor spaces of a home in DC's Forest Hills neighborhood into a luxury show house, using fabrics and furnishings from many of the WDC showrooms.

Tuesday, April 12

Eddie Ross shares insight on how designers can style their projects for photography. This includes a slideshow and live demonstration on propping furniture to be camera ready.

12:00-2:00 PM, J. Lambeth, Suite 117

Luncheon and the grand opening of the new Fabricut showroom joined by guests of honor Eddie Ross and Barry Dixon. Other special guests include Fortuny, JAB, Lucy Rose, Bassat McNAB, Camilla David and Watts.

1:00-2:00 PM, Stark Suite 726

Barry Goralnick, celebrated NY designer of products and interiors, will navigate the future of design based on emerging trends in the U.S. and Europe. He'll also introduce his two new rug collections for Stark. Refreshments will be served.

2:00-4:00 PM, Edward Ferrell + Lewis Mittman, Suite 211

Designer David Herchik will unveil his new furniture designs and launch Capsule Collections, small lines by premier designers around the country. Light Refreshments.

4:00-5:00 PM, Donghia, Suite 503

Jane Culligan of Boyd Lighting will illustrate how to specify luxury lighting at various price points.

WDC Hall of Fame Induction Reception honoring Jose Solis Betancourt and Paul Sherrill, partners at the Solis Betancourt & Sherrill design firm.

Wednesday, April 13

"Interior Jeweler" Michael Wagner, President and CEO of Charles of Paris, will present spectacular, handcrafted lighting. Bring your business card for a special raffle.

Join Designer David Easton for a discussion on design and his new book, Timeless Elegance.

Interior Design on Film: Cathy Whitlock will discuss her book, Designs on Film: A Century of Hollywood Art Direction, joined by Denny Dugally, production designer for the ABC television series "Brothers & Sisters," and Kristi Zea, production designer for "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," who will talk about life on the set.

12:00-1:30 PM, 5th Floor Conference Room - ** TRADE-ONLY EVENT

Luncheon and presentation of new wallpaper designs hosted by Claud Cecil Gurney, president of the venerable de Gournay, whose exquisite hand-painted designs are sold through Michael-Cleary.

2:00-3:30 PM, 5th Floor Conference Room

Principal designers of this year's DC Design House: Patrick Sutton, Liz Levin, Erin Paige Pitts, Lauren Liess and Nadia Subaran describe the approach to their designs for the show house in DC's Forest Hills neighborhood, and where they got their inspiration.

4:00-5:00 PM, 5th Floor Conference Room

Panel discussion with Adam Lewis, author of Billy Baldwin: The Great American Decorator, designer Frank Babb Randolph, who once worked for Baldwin, and John Knott, owner of Quadrille/China Seas Fabric Companies, who will share stories on Baldwin's design legacy.
