AIGA (Re)designAwards Now Accepting Submissions

Program honors sustainable and powerful design solutions

AIGA (Re)designAwards

LOS ANGELES - AIGA, the professional association for design, is reinforcing its mission to advance design as a professional craft, strategic tool and vital cultural force by hosting the AIGA (Re)designAwards. The AIGA (Re)designAwards is a distinguished design competition that showcases the importance and innovation of sustainable and socially responsible work created by design professionals, students, educators, and businesses and organizations from around the world.

Design has the inherent power to transform behavior and shape culture. It is why designers have both a responsibility and a tremendous opportunity to use that power to ignite change and to communicate the importance of sustainability to individuals, corporations and society as a whole. The (Re)designAwards competition recognizes design that challenges us to rethink our world and our choices. It is based on a fundamental belief that we can build a better planet through sustainable and socially responsible design.

“The (Re)designAwards were such a huge success in their inaugural year, hosted by the Colorado chapter, that this year we decided to up-the-ante and open submissions to the international community. We already have some inspired submissions, and are excited to see what we receive in these final 3 weeks,“ says Tricia Rauen Evenson, co-chair of the (Re)designAwards with husband, Stan Evenson.

AIGA is seeking innovative submissions from design professionals, students, educators, businesses and organizations that have achieved excellence in sustainable design. Entry fees range from $30 for students and AIGA members to $85 for non-members per series.

The competition includes two categories: social responsibility and environmental sustainability. To qualify for the social responsibility category, the design must be for a business or organization whose mission is social responsibility. To qualify for the environmental sustainability category, the entry must be an environmentally sustainable design for a business or organization.

The contest runs until July 22, 2011 with entries reviewed and a winner chosen by a panel of distinguished judges including Eric Benson, Rachel Martin, Naomi Pearson, Tim McNeil and Brain Dougherty. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards given for both categories in each of the following divisions: individual / agency, student, for-profit corporation and non-profit organization. Winners will receive an award at the Gala event on Oct. 27, 2011 at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, as well as recognition on the AIGA (Re)design Awards website, and on social media channels.
