WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) successfully debuted GO PRO: NYC, the organization’s first national program for emerging interior design professionals which took place in Manhattan on September 16-17, 2011. The program was conceived by the ASID Emerging Professional Advisory Council (EPAC) as part of ASID’s commitment to supporting the needs of the emerging interior design professionals. Live interviews with attendees can be viewed at: www.vimeo.com/29800173

“GO PRO was specifically designed to engage rising designers by advancing their knowledge, increasing their network, and inspiring their careers,” says Matthew DeGeeter, ASID, emerging professional advisory council chair. “With the energy of Manhattan at our side, we delivered an event that set the standard for emerging professional industry events.”

Over the course of two days, more than 100 emerging professionals attended the program.

The series of GO PRO: NYC events included four components:

PROject – A tour of the New York Times building, led by Guy Geier, managing partner of FXFOWLE Architects, to discuss how sustainable design practices were implemented on a large-scale to construct this celebrated building. The tour was organized and hosted by the ASID New York Metro chapter and followed by an opening reception in the Covington and Burling law offices.

PROduct -- Famed high-end silk carpet designer, most well-known for working with Nepalese weavers and creating innovative maps of New York, Joe Carini of CariniLang shared perspectives on his design approach and the intricacies of the carpet production process from his exquisite showroom.

PRO Bono Work -- Knoll hosted a panel discussion on the responsibility of the design community to embrace pro bono work. Led by John Cary, founder and curator of PublicInterestDesign.org and author of “The Power of Pro Bono.”  The panel explored a pro bono design project case study on Harlem-based Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS) and design firm Perkins + Will.

PROfessional Advancement -- Attendees had the opportunity to network with established design professionals at a closing reception hosted by AXOR NYC Design Studio and Hansgrohe. The reception featured designers who specialize in commercial, healthcare, hospitality and residential design, small business ownership, showroom management and product design/retail.

Sponsors of the event included Ambiente, AXOR Hansgrohe, CariniLang and Knoll.
