Today’s FM professional typically holds a college degree, manages over 1 million square feet of space and a team of multiple employees, and enjoys a base salary 8% higher than the 2007 average, according to IFMA’s most recent Profiles Salary and Demographics Report.
Based on a survey of 4,353 FM professionals from 45 countries, the report also reveals that 9% of survey respondents were 34 or younger, a significant increase from 7% in 2007.
About 83% of respondents attended college, with 64% earning a bachelor’s degree and 20% holding a master’s or doctoral degree. A higher level of education corresponded to higher pay, as respondents with a master’s degree reported an average base pay of $101,629 (up from $96,750 in 2007) compared to the average base pay of $87,000 for an FM with a bachelor’s degree (up from $82,000 in 2007).
“Facility management is a competitive, compelling profession with the potential to attract top-tier talent, both today and in the future,” says IFMA President Tony Keane. “Facility management provides strategic value and contributes to organizational success, and facility professionals are increasingly getting greater recognition and compensation for these contributions.”
