Arena Corporate Center in Anaheim Completed

Construction on the $19.8 million Arena Corporate Center in Anaheim, CA, was completed in May by McCarthy Building Cos. Inc., based in St. Louis. The three-building complex, totaling 382,000 square feet, is comprised of Class A office space and was developed by Dallas-based Trammell Crow Co. The three identical buildings were designed by MacDavid-Martinez Architects of Tustin, CA, and use concrete tilt-up construction. “One of the biggest project challenges was the coordination and sequencing of the precast tilt-up panel raises,” says Steve Van Dyke, project manager, McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. “With proper planning and effective subcontractor, materials, and equipment coordination, we accomplished this scope of work as scheduled and completed the project on time.”

The terra cotta and cream exterior is complemented by green reflective glass and mullions, and large arched entries welcome occupants and visitors into granite and marble lobbies. One acre of lush landscaping surrounds the corporate center and provides a central plaza for tenant use. “We’ve also provided our tenants with an on-site jogging trail and basketball court along with lockers and showers,” adds Steve Hollis, vice president development manager, Trammell Crow Co., Irvine, CA.

Exploration!

Carnegie (www.carnegiefabrics.com), Rockville Centre, NY, has announced its second annual Environmental Tour 2003: A Sustainable Exploration, a groundbreaking educational journey that will immerse participants in the world of textile and flooring production from an environmental perspective. Based on Carnegie’s long standing relationships with European suppliers, the tour presents a cross-section of manufacturing facilities that take different approaches to a similar goal: producing interior products that have little negative impact on the planet.

The Environmental Tour will visit the facilities of Carnegie’s co-sponsors (Forbo Linoleum Inc., Creation Baumann, and Rohner Textile AG) to explore the ways each firm approaches sustainability. Scheduled for Fall 2003, the Tour is IIDA-accredited and each participant will earn 2.4 credit hours.

Prepare for Hurricane Season

A report by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says the 2003 Atlantic hurricane season will likely have above-normal levels of activity.

“It’s important that building owners and managers along the coastlines of North America prepare for hurricanes and tropical storms every year,” says Tom McGuire, national catastrophe manager, Glendale Heights,

IL-based Munters Moisture Control Services.

Having a written disaster recovery plan (DRP) in place is an important first step. But, even the best DRP is not sufficient unless you take other preparatory steps to reduce potential water damage impact. Make sure to:

  • Inspect for and repair building weaknesses.
  • Research and prepare for the storm.
  • Take fast action and conduct an inspection after storm hits.
  • Dry with dessicant dehumidification equipment.

Learning to Speak Real Estate

The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), Chicago, can help. The recent release of its Glossary of Real Estate Management defines everything from A to Z

(literally from “AAA rating” to “zoning variance”) – plus, it can help you figure out what acronyms like CBD, MSDS, and PCBs mean.
