NEW YORK--Designtex, a Steelcase company, has announced that Susan Lyons joined the organization as of June 18th, as their new President.
Lyons was previously with Designtex as Creative Director and Executive Vice President of Design. She left in 2002 to form a collaborative design studio that focused on material research, product and color strategy, product design and sustainable materials development. For the last six years, she has also worked as the Creative Director for Materials at Herman Miller.
Speaking on behalf of the Steelcase brands, "Susan is a perfect fit for this role, she is a systems design thinker who understands the business model, and is able to blend aesthetics with the overall design aspirations of the enterprise," says Frank Merlotti, President of Coalesse. Lyons' work is characterized by an original use of materials and new technologies. Her pioneering work in sustainable design has been recognized globally as a model of sustainable product development. Lyons has numerous design awards and her work can be found in museum collections both in the U.S. and Europe.

Materials, color and texture are a critical part of the tool box that the A + D community uses to create meaningful environments. We want to partner with architects and designers in that process of exploration and creation," states Lyons.
