Who are you?
I am Beyond, a movable, frameless glass wall system, and I live up to my name in many ways. I let those in today’s crowded workplace enjoy a sense of privacy with a view beyond the enclosures that separate them.
Where are you from?
I was conceived in Montreal, but am now a
thoroughbred American from Muscatine, Ia.
Who in your family do you most resemble?
I am actually so different from the rest of my family of workplace furnishings that we’ve sprouted a whole new branch on the family tree—architectural products.
Aside from sugar and spice and everything nice, what else are you made of?
Just because I’m made of glass, doesn’t mean I’m fragile. I’m tough enough to hold privacy tiles
and shelving—how about that? With skin ½-inch thick, I’m also super soundproof, with the sound transmission class (STC) rating to prove it.
What are your biggest turn-ons?
Providing solutions for architects and designers who are responsible for creating productive work environments.
Turn-offs?
Being stuck in one place! This baby was meant to be moved freely, and reconfigure whenever and wherever needed.
If you were stranded on a deserted island
and could only have three things, what would they be?
I would hope to be fitted with the optional eraser board privacy tile and a marker so I could sketch out an SOS message.
What inspires you?
The great mind of my designer, Eberhard Von Huene. They call him the “wall guru” because
he has invented and pioneered the category of movable glass walls almost singlehandedly—it’s practically been his life’s study.
How do you lessen your environmental impact?
I can help meet LEED requirements with all the light I let in (cue heavenly choir sound effect). And, since I’m built to last and meant to stay awhile, I can reduce construction costs and waste. Not to mention, solar energy powers my production.
In what type of interior environment do you make the greatest impact?
I’m designed for spaces with ever-evolving needs—places with fluctuating staff numbers and constantly edited floor plans. My unitized, non-progressive wall panels maximize efficiency by transforming an open plan to a row of private offices, and vice versa, with astounding speed.
Describe the secret to your success.
It’s no secret—I’m transparent. My adaptability puts me ahead of the competition when it comes to customization, and my proprietary built-in scissor lift takes me above and beyond what other movable glass walls deliver.
