Sherwin-Williams announced the winners of its fourth annual STIR® Student Design Challenge, which recognizes emerging talent in residential and commercial design.

Cortni Stevenson, a student from Texas Christian University, won first place in residential design for her contemporary take on a high-rise condominium. Elena Proskurina, from Louisiana State University, won first place in the commercial design category for her interpretation of a modern office space. The students will each receive a cash prize of $2,500 and will be featured in an upcoming issue of Sherwin-Williams STIR Magazine.

“We saw some strong design work from students and the quality of this year’s work made the process of choosing winners the most difficult yet,” said Jackie Jordan, director of color marketing, Sherwin-Williams. “Ultimately, the submissions from Cortni and Elena featured a truly exceptional level of skill and creativity, and they are both well poised to contribute significantly to the design world.”

Joining Jordan as judges were Ernesto Garcia from Ernesto Garcia Interior Design, located in Phoenix, Arizona, and Tamara Bopp, award-winning director of interior design for Hahnfeld Hoffer Stanford, located in Fort Worth, Texas.

The runners up in the in the residential category, Anna Hickman of Marywood University (Scranton, Pennsylvania) and Judith Grant of Art Institute of Atlanta were second and third place winners, respectively. In the commercial category, Patrick Gagnon of Université de Moncton (New Brunswick, Canada) and Gisella Allen of University of Texas at Austin were second and third place winners, respectively. Second-place winners received $1,000 and third-place winners $500. All contest winners will be featured in the Sherwin-Williams STIR eExtra email newsletter, on the Sherwin-Williams Facebook page for design professionals and at sherwin-williams.com.

Students entered into either the commercial or residential design category and used a minimum of three Sherwin-Williams colors to qualify.
