TVS Helps Georgia Tech Grow a Green Thumb

The Georgia Institute of Technology – College of Management was recently awarded the LEED Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. This new project is one of only 16 projects in the world to attain the Silver Certification and the second within the state of Georgia.

The new 188,872-square-foot College of Management formally opened in October 2003 and is part of the Technology Square complex that includes four buildings totaling 653,000 square feet.

Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates (TVS), a leading architecture firm practicing sustainable design, worked with Georgia Tech from project onset to help limit waste and utilize recycled and local materials. The project:

  • Exceeds energy codes by 16 percent due to energy-efficient systems.
  • Used local construction materials for over 75 percent of the project – four times more than the LEED requirements.
  • Features 112 percent of the LEED requirements for the use of recycled building materials in Technology Square.
