An aggressive growth program and strategic acquisitions have developed Indianapolis-based Duke Realty Corp. into one of the nation’s largest real estate companies. In 2004, Duke reports a 119.73 million-square-foot portfolio: 31.61 million square feet in 281 office buildings; 486,257 square feet in nine shopping centers; 369,140 square feet in three chain stores; and 87.26 million square feet in 660 industrial buildings. With 392 professionals involved full-time in facilities, Duke reports an estimated capital expenditure toward facilities in 2004 of $82 million, with estimates in 2004 operational expenditures at $223 million. New construction projects to be completed this year involve 1.97 million square feet of space.
