In its latest release, the Intl. Code Council (ICC) reported that rising numbers of jurisdictions adopting the I-Codes is bringing the organization closer to its goal. The council is striving for one set of building safety and fire prevention codes to be used nationwide. According to the ICC, “This year, at least 241 jurisdictions have adopted one or more I-Codes developed by the Intl. Code Council as the codes of choice for their communities. Nationwide, at least 14,893 jurisdictions have adopted and enforce at least one I-Code.”
The mission of one set of construction codes according to the council will keep building costs down by providing uniformity. “Uniformity helps building and materials manufacturers to do business on a larger scale, allowing cost savings to be passed on to consumers while improving public safety.”
Among the latest I-Code adoptions were Washoe County, NV; Colorado’s Carbondale, Coal Creek Canyon Fire Protection District, and Greeley; Franklin County, KS; Hazelwood, MO; Homewood and Gurnee, both in Illinois; Millington, TN; and Prattville, AL.
