New Website Touts Benefits of Metal Roofs and Walls in Commercial Construction
The new website of The Metal Initiative - a coalition of manufacturers, individuals, and associations in the metal industry - offers a broad range of information for building owners, architects, and contractors on the features and benefits of metal materials used in commercial construction. The site is intended to be an information source to professional building owners and their design teams, according to Steven J. Collins, marketing director for The Metal Initiative.

The site addresses the key benefits of roofing and wall systems made of steel, aluminum, copper, and zinc - including green and cool roof design, life-cycle costing, durability, design flexibility, and sustainability. It also provides an “Ask the Expert” section. Case studies of installations involving low-slope and architectural steep-slope roofs - as well as pre-formed, insulated, metal composite, and custom natural metal wall panels - are offered with illustrations.

New Security Report Finds Most Owners Still in Assessment Phase
Natick, MA-based ZweigWhite’s new market research report, Homeland Security Opportunities for Design & Construction Firms, indicates that infrastructure owners contracting with design and construction firms on Homeland Security projects are using these firms to evaluate threats and vulnerabilities to their facilities rather than to design and construct physical security improvements. The report also finds that owners, as a whole, are still in the initial phases of the market and are procuring services, such as vulnerability and security risk assessments, to help get ready for potential terrorist attacks. This should change over the next few years as the marketplace moves into the prevention phase and more design and construction opportunities arise to implement the facility-hardening recommendations that come out of these assessments.
