NSCA Expo Preview

According to the National Systems Contractors Association (NSCA), its Systems Integration Expo®, to be held March 16-18 in Las Vegas, will feature more than 450 exhibits showcasing AV, access control, acoustics, control systems, data, digital signage, security/life safety, lighting, telephony, sound, and video technology. The organization expects 11,000 attendees.

The NSCA predicts 2006 will be the best year for nonresidential construction since 1998, with overall nonresidential construction activity expected to increase 7.9 percent, up 4 percent since 2005. With such upward movement, the 2006 NSCA Expo offers opportunities for architects to keep pace with the rapid advancements in technology. They can learn best practices for integrating technology into facility design, a service in high demand.

At the Wynn Las Vegas Technology Tour, attendees can learn firsthand how technology was put to work at one of Las Vegas’ hottest new resorts. Kevin Potts Sr., account manager, Ford Audio Video Systems, will take attendees behind the scenes in the Aqua Theater, a $100 million venue developed for the Le Reve Show, produced by Dragon. They can see a state-of-the-art sound system including projectors and unique domed screens. At Front Feature, they’ll see what has become Las Vegas’ most talked about venue and have an opportunity to see projections of high definition video come to life onto a wall of water, along with the unique show control that makes this all possible.

Sponsored by Pro Sound Inc., Las Vegas, a second resort tour will take attendees into other impressive venues of the Wynn Las Vegas. They can view the Tech Center, which serves as the technical nerve center of the entire building. Communications converge here from throughout the entire property. A tour of the casino floor will allow an inside look into the hidden cameras and demonstrate how the sound blends paging and background music with slot machine audio.

Attendees of the 2006 Systems Integration Expo will get a rare, behind-the-scenes look at one of Las Vegas’ latest technological innovations, the Las Vegas Monorail. This driverless, state-of-the-art urban public transportation system, expected to carry 19 million passengers per year, operates on a route approximately 4 miles long and runs along the east side of the famous Las Vegas strip. Attendees will see the Central Control Facility, the core of the monorail operation, that incorporates a myriad of technologies for train control, communications, and security.

In response to demand for network designs that integrate all electronic systems into one “super solution,” a new IP Product Showcase will launch at the 2006 NSCA Expo to help architects and designers determine which products and solutions will best serve their clients’ needs. They can find out what hot IP products will solve their next design challenge. In addition to the latest IP product advancements, they can also take advantage of educational seminars on wireless networks, AV networking issues, and voiceover IP (VoIP).

The Hot Topic Sessions at Expo will cover the industry’s most relevant issues; one such session is tailored specifically for A/Es, facilities managers, building owners, and other buildings professionals. The session “Integration in Today’s High Tech Buildings” will provide information on how the new divisions in MasterFormat™ 04 will impact the design/build community. Participants will learn what should be considered when integrating technology into designs. Owners will understand how to better manage the technology once it has been acquired. All will leave with information on what changes have been made to MasterFormat, technologies available for use in today’s high-tech buildings, and tools for how technology can increase future business success. This program is registered for one LU hour through AIA’s CES Program. For information on other learning units at the event, visit www.nscaexpo.org.
