Kimball Office Recognized for Design Leadership

Jasper, IN – The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design has distinguished Kimball Office with a Good Design® Award for its Adagiato™ guest seating line. The Good Design awards honor products and industry leaders for excellent, competitive and enduring product design.

Created by David Allan Pesso, Adagiato will be placed into the Museum’s Permanent Design Collection.

“We’re very proud to be recognized for design leadership by such a prestigious organization,” says David White, Kimball Office vice president and general manager. “This award really highlights the innovation that defines our products, and the integrated approach we take in designing them.”

The Chicago Athenaeum received hundreds of submissions, including designs for an airplane and a paper clip, from more than 25 countries for consideration. The jury selected approximately 200 products whose innovation, form, materials, construction, concept, function and utility were worthy of design distinction.

In designing Adagiato, Pesso and Kimball Office have achieved a chair that is not only aesthetically striking, but sets a new standard for guest seating ergonomics. Adagiato’s visual appeal derives from the textural contrast of tubular steel chassis, richly finished wood back and soft upholstery. Its performance is differentiated by a refinement of geometry and proportion. Adagiato is generous in scale, offering a suspended seat for extra comfort and an increased back pitch for extra support.

Good Design is one of the oldest and most important design competitions in the world, founded in Chicago in 1950 by Edgar J. Kaufmann, Jr., with some of America’s most influential designers, including Charles and Ray Eames, and Eero Saarinen.
