Editors’ Choice: Work Anywhere … with Allsteel’s Merge Adaptive Tables

The editorial staff rates Allsteel's collaborative table

The look is deliberately unobtrusive; the table's aesthetics will easily blend with any workstation, whether it's Allsteel furniture or another manufacturer's. A variety of finishes allow the Merge Adaptive Table to unify or upgrade an existing space.

This table is a great idea. Who hasn't needed a little extra worksurface now and then? The self-centering capability is genius and slick. One suggestion, though: Releasing the drop-leaf should be as soundless and smooth as adjusting the table height.

Casters make this table an ideal mobile workstation for individuals who occasionally need more surface area, or want a small table to gather at for one-on-one meetings. Simply roll it out of sight when it's not needed and wheel it over when it is. We especially liked the lock feature on the casters, making the table immobile while in use.

Ease of Use
Controls are very intuitive. No instructions are needed; however, a certain weight must be exerted on the top of the table to lower the height. This could be a challenge for some users.

The MergeTM Adaptive Table from Muscatine, IA-based Allsteel Inc. expands work and collaborative spaces by docking to any worksurface. The system's drop leaf and height adjustability easily allow it to adjust to any shape or height; in fact, the table automatically re-centers, distributing its weight load so that it's usable and stable regardless of the drop-leaf position. When not in use, the 36-inch table can be stowed under the worksurface, thereby conserving space. For more information about the Merge Adaptive Table, visit (
