BOCA RATON, FL - STH Architectural Group Inc. is currently designing the new Engineering and Computer Science Classroom Building to be located on the Boca Raton campus of Florida Atlantic University. Florida Atlantic University hopes to be the first university in Florida with a LEED Platinum certified building.

The 80,000-square-foot building will unify and consolidate the current computer science and engineering classes that are currently held in various FAU facilities. The building will also offer department office facilities and offices for the Dean of Engineering and Computer Science. STH Architectural Group Inc. is the Architect of Record. William A. Hanser, AIA, is the Principal in Charge, Ron Wiendl, AIA is the Senior Designer, and Robert Thomas, AIA, LEED AP, is the Project Manager.
The first floor of the five-story building will offer computer science labs along with a food service area and student center. The second floor will house computer and engineering labs along with student services. The third, fourth, and fifth floors will house classrooms, department offices, and the Dean's office.
Pre-cast concrete and glass give the building a contemporary vocabulary but the inside the building is designed to utilize ‘Engineering on Display' throughout. This inventive use of exposed building systems will create a living laboratory where students can learn from the architecture of the building. The new Engineering and Computer Science Classroom Building is scheduled for completion by 2009.
