Ceramic Tiles of Italy announces the 2009 Ceramic Tiles of Italy Design Competition Call for Entries. With hundreds of manufacturers producing elegant and innovative designs, Italian ceramic tile offers architects and designers a durable, versatile and design-driven material that is ideal for use in any project.
The Ceramic Tiles of Italy Design Competition, now in its 16th year, celebrates the outstanding work of North American architects and designers who feature Italian ceramic tiles in their institutional, residential or commercial/hospitality spaces.
Ceramic Tiles of Italy's user-friendly Web site, www.tilecompetition.com, which is strictly dedicated to the competition, has been designed to simplify the submission process. Everything from instructions on eligibility, competition guidelines and answers to frequently asked questions as well as a downloadable submission form is easily accessible through the site.
Browsing through the archive section, visitors can scroll through the rich history of superior projects submitted over the past 15 years. These projects, which range from luxurious modern homes, trendy restaurants and hotels, educational and religious institutions, and exterior office facades, serve as superior examples of the adaptability of Italian tile to a wealth of applications.
For the 2009 edition, North American architects and interior designers are invited to submit domestic and international new construction and renovation projects completed between January 2004 and January 2009. A panel of design experts will judge the projects based on their creativity, functionality and aesthetic appeal. The official criterion for the jury includes: overall design of the project; innovative use of tile; tile design; quality of installation; and degree that tile enhances the setting.
Winners in each category will receive a cash prize of $5,000 and a trip to Coverings, which will be held in the rich A&D community of Chicago, IL, from April 21-24, 2009.
In addition, an exhibit of the winning projects will be on display in the Italian pavilion during this internationally acclaimed tile and stone trade show. Winners will also be treated to a five-day trip to Bologna, Italy, to attend CERSAIE 2009-the world's largest exhibition for ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings-joining a delegation of leading design journalists. This year, the organization will once again award an additional $1,000 to be shared by the winning contractor/distributor team.
Completed submissions must be received no later than February 06, 2009.
