BOSTON (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Steelcase, a global leader in the office furniture industry, recently announced its participation in the EMerge Alliance™ as a participating member.
This group of visionaries, including product manufacturers, architects, building owners, engineering firms, government and code groups, and academic groups, will lead the creation of a new direct current (DC) power, control and device-level technology standard for commercial interiors.
In today's workplace, overhead lighting, lighting controls and a variety of electrical devices are typically hard-wired to fixed systems. At the same time, workplace demands for flexibility, sustainability and adaptability to new technologies are increasing.
EMerge will advance a DC power platform, starting at the ceiling plane, that can be easily reconfigured and enable new technologies, such as LED lighting, wireless switching, sound masking and security systems.
In addition, the platform is an open architecture to accommodate integration of wind power, solar power and other alternative energy sources.
