Due to a better understanding of insulation’s impact on a roof’s energy and environmental performance, minimum R-values in codes have been rising. This webinar covers the major types of above-deck insulation and explains their applications. It will also discuss how to evaluate insulation options for varying roof slopes and facility types.

Jim Hoff is an experienced executive and consultant in the building materials industry. Dr. Hoff currently serves as Vice President, Research for the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing in Washington, DC and as President of TEGNOS Research, Inc. a consulting organization founded in 2007 and dedicated to expanding understanding of the building envelope. Prior to the founding of TEGNOS Research, Dr. Hoff served in a number of key executive roles for over twenty-three years at Firestone Building Products, the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial roofing systems.

Since 2007, Dr. Hoff has provided a wide variety of strategic and technical consulting services to over two dozen governmental, non-profit and corporate organizations, specializing in sustainable building envelope technologies. In addition to an ongoing research role for the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing, recent clients have included the U.S. Department of Energy, the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association, the Single-Ply Roofing Institute, building materials manufacturers, building envelope designers and private equity firms.

Dr. Hoff currently serves on the board of directors of the Cool Roof Rating Council and the Roof Consultants Institute Foundation and is a past chairman of the EPDM Roofing Association and the Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association. Dr. Hoff is also active in technology development, holding three U. S. Patents for new building envelope technologies and serving on ASTM Committees E-60, C-16 and D-08.

Dr. Hoff received a B.S. in psychology from Indiana University, an A.A.S. in architectural design from Indiana Vocational Technical College, a M.S. in management science from Indiana Wesleyan University and a D.B.A. in management from the University of Sarasota.  He has published numerous papers addressing a variety of technical and business topics germane to the building envelope industry and is a frequent speaker at building envelope, sustainability and energy efficiency conferences.
