DryFining Technology on Display for 2010 Coal Project of the Year

Great River Energy’s DryFining technology has been recognized in the 2010 Coal Project of the Year via Power Engineering magazine. DryFining is a method to control cost-effective coal-based power plant emissions while improving fuel quality.

DryFining utilizes power plant waste heat to reduce moisture, and generates more energy from less coal.

DryFining works to segregate particles by density, allowing high density compounds to be removed rather than oxidized in the boiler – resulting in reductions of sulfur dioxide and mercury by 40%, nitrogen oxide by 20%, and carbon dioxide by 4%.  Elimination of many of these major pollutants, low cost of installation, and reduction in operating expenses are some of the major benefits of DryFining technology.

One-third of electric power generated by coal in the U.S. comes from plants that utilize high-moisture coal, making DryFining a significant development for efficient energy.
