FMs continue to see the value of BAS systems, as a new report projects yearly growth in the BAS market for the next five years. The study from ABI Research says that office buildings will be the biggest adopters over the five-year period, with retail and public assembly facilities also implementing a large share of new BAS systems. Other projected growth verticals for the technology include hospitality and healthcare facilities.

While the findings note that the majority of commercial building connections in 2015 are from wired equipment, the implementation of wireless technologies is also expected to increase through 2021, especially in building areas such as lighting and HVAC.

“The Internet of Things and its adoption in consumer markets has a noticeable impact in the traditionally conservative industry with distributed intelligence and cloud-based analytics gaining acceptance,” says Adarsh Krishnan, Senior Analyst for ABI Research.
