Raising the profile of the facility management profession anywhere FMs influence and utilize buildings

World FM Day will be held this year on the 17th of May, but celebrations are encouraged during entire week of May 15th-19th, giving more time to recognize the facility management profession and everyone associated with it

Started in 2008 by Global FM, World FM Day's goal is to raise the profile of the FM profession anywhere FMs influence the health, safety, productivity and well-being of people who utilize the built environment. Global FM introduced the Excellence Awards to highlight individuals going above and beyond the call of duty in the profession.

“It was a great privilege to coordinate this year’s Awards program and work with such talented individuals,” says Jacyln Lee, co-ordinator of the Global FM Excellence Awards 2017. “The submissions for the 2017 Global FM Awards represented extremely innovative projects and strategies that highlight the great advancements occurring in the facilities management industry. Congratulations to all the winners and we look forward to next year’s program.”

This year's theme, “enabling positive experiences,” is about highlighting how FM enables exceptional spaces that enhance life and recognizes the impact facilities management has on positive customer, client and employee experience in all sectors.

All of the entries highlighted the role that facility management professionals play in supporting and enabling business performance.

To cast a spotlight on FMs who have done excellent work in the past year, the 2017 winners of Global FM's Excellence Awards are listed below:

  • Platinum Award of Excellence in FM – IFMA: Creating a Model for Sustainable FM, Compass Properties, U.S.
  • Gold Award of Excellence in FM – IFMA: Leadership in Professional FM, Jack Christensen, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, U.S.
