Philips Lighting Co. Announces Lighting Application Center 2005 Light Workshop Series

 
SOMERSET, N.J. (November 30, 2004) - Philips Lighting Co., the U.S.-based lighting division of Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI), today announced the topics and dates for its 2005 Lighting Application Workshop Series, a program of public seminars hosted at the Lighting Application Center in Somerset, NJ. Continuing its mission to educate and inspire end-users about the value of light, Philips Lighting Co.'s workshops cover topics ranging from industrial and retail lighting to LEED and hospitality applications.

"There is no substitute for experiencing the value of lighting first-hand," said Steve Goldmacher, director of corporate communications, Philips Lighting Co. "Philips offers the ultimate in lighting education at the largest and most technologically advanced facility in North America, with world-class instruction from industry veterans and university-level trainers. We encourage end-users to attend workshops throughout the year and to see the many things that are possible with Philips Lighting."

Classes provide hands-on opportunities to explore the fundamental principles of lighting and new technologies in the Lighting Application Centers Education Theater. Four new application workshops have been added this year: hospitality, healthcare, LEED, and museum. Other workshops include information on applications for office, residential, retail, and industrial lighting theater settings. The 2005 Lighting Application Workshop series is composed of a total of 12 programs, 10 of which are open to the general public.

The 2005 workshop schedule is as follows:

Fundamentals of Lighting (5-day)
o April 4-8, 2005
o October 17-21, 2005

Fundamentals of Lighting
o January 31-February 2, 2005
o May 2-4, 2005
o August 1-3, 2005
o November 7-9, 2005
o A foundation course for anyone interested in the principles and applications of lighting.

Retail Application Workshop
o May 23-25, 2005
o A workshop designed to teach retailers how to use lighting to: manipulate purchasing behavior; set a mood or atmosphere appropriate for brand image; provide visual clues to customers; highlight important merchandise; and facilitate the final sale.

Office Application Workshop
o September 12-14, 2005
o A course geared to help commercial end-users and specifiers address visual performance, visual comfort, energy management, maintenance, and sustainability in the office.

Industrial Application Workshop
o June 27-29, 2005
o A seminar held in the Industrial Theater that exposes attendees to the impact lighting has on energy, maintenance, safety, performance and productivity, and environmental responsibility in industrial environments.

Hospitality Application Workshop
o February 23-25, 2005

Healthcare Application Workshop
o February 28-March 2, 2005

Museum Application Workshop
o July 11-12, 2005

Residential Application Workshop
o January 24-26, 2005

College and University Professors Conference (invite only)
o June 6-8, 2005
o Open by invite only to teachers at the university level.
o An interactive seminar that not only covers the fundamentals of lighting, but also examines the most effective ways to impart this information to students.

Introduction to the World of Lighting (invite only)
o Student programs (15) scheduled one per month, with heavier concentration in April and October/November
o One-day workshop designed to expose college students to the fundamentals of lighting and workings of the industry.
