BP Fabrics and Fibers Company Welcomes New President, Brad T. Mortimer

Bradford T. Mortimer, a seasoned manager with almost three decades of domestic and international experience in the chemical industry, has been named president of the Fabrics and Fibers Business Unit of BP.

Mortimer leaves his post as director of organizational development with BP Chemical in Naperville, Ill., to assume his new position in early May. “I am excited about the opportunity to lead the Fabrics and Fibers Business. This organization has a long-standing tradition of market leadership and a heartfelt commitment to providing safe and environmentally friendly work sites for our employees and the communities in which we operate. We will continue to maintain our position as the leading global supplier of carpet backing and industrial fabrics by cultivating an intense focus on providing high quality fabrics tailored to meet our customers needs at competitive pricing,” said Mortimer.

“Brad has a proven track record within our organization, he has honed his business skills in a wide range of assignments including senior sales and management roles in the U.S. and  Europe,” says Peter Cella, outgoing  BP president. “His knowledge, experience and leadership qualities are an ideal fit to lead this organization.”

BP is one of the largest integrated petroleum and petrochemicals companies in the world, operating in 100 countries, on six continents and serving 10 million customers each day. The company has 100,000 employees worldwide with annual revenues of $120-billion.

BP Fabrics and Fibers’ products and services are major components for a wide range of every day consumer and industrial products. These products include carpet backing, geotextile, construction, furniture, bedding, and automotive applications, as well as fabrics for industrial packaging.

Its carpet backing fabrics include the premier brands for manufacture of tufted carpet for residential and commercial interiors, including Polybac®, Polybac® FLW, Polybac® GL, Actionbac® and Matrixtm—the revolutionary new woven/non-woven primary composite.

A native of Kendalville, Ind., Mortimer joined Amoco as a lab technician in 1974 after graduating from Western Illinois University where he majored in zoology. He also received a B.S. in chemistry from Elmhurst College.

Over the next two decades, Mortimer advanced rapidly within the organization, working as a technical service chemist, sales representative, regional sales manager, and director of marketing and sales in Europe and as global business manager in the Industrial Intermediates and PTA business units. Soon after the merger of Amoco and BP, Mortimer was named director of North American commercial services and later project manager for business process re-engineering for BP Chemical.

Brad and his family look forward to relocating to Georgia. His interests beyond his career include golf, cross-country skiing and travel.
