The number of safety incidents at processing plants has increased as the nation's refineries have aged. During the first two weeks of 2013, a total of 27 process safety incidents, including fires, leaks and fugitive emissions were reported at U.S. refineries.

Fire investigators determined the fire started when pyrotechnics used during the band’s performance ignited polyurethane foam that lined parts of the nightclub’s walls and ceilings. After ignition, the fire spread quickly along the ceiling and throughout the building. Within seconds, conditions in the building became deadly and flames were observed breaking through the roof in less than five minutes after the fire started.

But as you race to the third floor, how do you know if the building will hold up? Walls of water are not the only danger. Another potentially lethal challenge is water-driven debris - such as 60,000-pound fully loaded cargo containers - transformed into projectiles.

We’ve come to expect automatic doors in many types of facilities.  Grocery stores, hotels, hospitals, airports and convenience stores are all commonly associated with the automatic door.  But automatic doors can add convenience, cost savings and an enhanced sense of customer service in many other types of buildings as well.

How’s your facility looking this flu season? According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this year’s flu season is shaping up to become the worst the United States has seen in a decade, with levels tipping to “epidemic” proportions. Studies show that the flu costs businesses approximately $7 billion per year due to the nearly 111 million work days lost. Norovirus cases are also on the rise this season, and the CDC reports that foodborne norovirus illness accounts for $2 billion in lost productivity and healthcare costs each year.
