Pennsylvania Brewery Ramps Up to 100% Wind Power

Yards Brewing Company is now powering its Philadelphia brewery entirely with wind energy.

Yards Brewing Company, a Pennsylvania craft brewer, recently became the first brewery in Pennsylvania to depend entirely on wind power.

The Philadelphia company’s power purchase, provided by Washington Gas Energy Services (WGES) as part of its CleanSteps WindPower program, avoids emissions equivalent to burning 52,000 fewer gallons of gasoline or taking 91 cars off the road for a year. WGES buys renewable energy certificates (RECs) from wind power generators to offset all emissions from the standard power it provides to customers.

“Our green power purchase just makes sense,” says Tom Kehoe, Yards owner and founder. “It fulfills our business philosophy and falls in line with our community efforts to be more environmentally sustainable.”
