ENERGY COSTS are no longer a mystery thanks to a utility rate database that enables nimble, easy comparisons between electricity costs.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), working together with Illinois State University with funding from the Department of Energy’s SunShot Initiative, has created a comprehensive database of electricity rates from nearly 3,500 utility companies nationwide.

The machine readable database makes it possible for software developers to create applications that utilize the data to bring down the “soft costs” of solar installation.

It’s also able to accommodate a variety of utility pricing models, including block and seasonal rates to give a more accurate picture of energy costs. See if your facility is paying too much for electricity by visiting
