Ted Michelsen

Ted Michelsen is president of Michelsen Technologies, a full-service roof consulting firm specializing in low-slope commercial roof systems. A longtime roofing educator, Ted served as the executive director of the Roofing Industry Educational Institute from 1997 to 2001, teaching and developing classes in addition to running the organization. He has also honed his training skills through speaking on behalf of BURSI, the Better Understanding of Roofing Systems Institute, starting in 1978. Ted’s extensive background in product development, testing, and selection includes 26 years at Johns Manville, where he ultimately became vice president for technical services and research in the roof systems division. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry, both from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
