The DOE has announced the launch of the National Geothermal Student Competition, which will provide up to $100,000 to fund as many as 10 collegiate teams. This geothermal competition will challenge students to advance their understanding of the potential of geothermal energy in the nation’s energy portfolio.

The National Geothermal Student Competition will charge student teams to conduct research on the geothermic energy potential of the Rio Grande Rift province, located in southeastern Colorado and northern New Mexico. Each team will produce a set of data to assess the geothermal potential of the high potential, underdeveloped area.
