Facebook Invests in Renewable-Powered Data Center

Social media giant selects wind energy

Facebook is going green with the announcement that its latest data center in Fort Worth, TX will be powered by 100% renewable energy. As part of the project, 200 MW of wind energy has been added to the grid in Texas, providing clean energy for the new installation.

To help improve the current and future designs of data centers, Facebook will also share the design through its Open Compute Project, allowing participants and projects members to collaborate and suggest ideas for improvements. The data center will support both the company’s social networking apps and its Internet.org service. It joins Facebook’s other facilities in Altoona, IA; Prineville, OR; Forest City, NC; and Lulea, Sweden.
