The Safety and Health Program Management Guidelines from OSHA are being updated, with the administration seeking public comment on the new version of the voluntary guidelines first published in 1989. The new guidelines are designed to be especially useful for small- to medium-sized organizations, as well as address ways that FMs can handle situations with multiple employers at the same worksite to ensure all workers are protected from harm.
OSHA is quick to note, however, that the guidelines are only meant as advisory documents and will not create or alter legal obligations created by OSHA standards or regulations. Comments on the new change will be accepted through February 15, 2016 and can be posted here using Docket #OSHA-2015-0018.
“Employers who embrace these guidelines will experience lower injury and illness rates, and their progress in improving the safety culture at their worksites will contribute to higher productivity, reduced costs and greater worker satisfaction,” says Dr. David Michaels, Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA.
