A new guide to developing a water management program can help you keep building occupants safe from Legionella.
The CDC recently released a comprehensive guide to water management strategies based on ASHRAE Standard 188. It includes a checklist to identify whether a water management program is needed, examples of where Legionella thrives, and tips to reduce contamination risk, as well as a guide to developing a water management program that meets industry standards.
The release comes on the heels of a steady increase in cases of Legionnaires’ disease, the lung infection caused by Legionella. In 2014, the most recent year for which data is available, there were 1.62 cases of Legionnaires’ disease per 100,000 people, nearly four times the 0.42 reported cases in 2000.
