Winners at BREEAM Awards 2017 Showcase Building Certifications

BREEAM Awards 2017 give successful sustainability efforts in facilities a platform to showcase efforts in residential, retail, industrial, education, and healthcare

BRE has announced the winners of its annual BREEAM Awards 2017, which identifies the top performing buildings and sustainability efforts among those certified to the BREEAM sustainability program in 2016.

The victors this year consist of the most innovative sustainable buildings in the U.K. and in countries across the world, including the Netherlands and Sweden.

The awards cover a variety of sectors including residential, retail, industrial, education and healthcare as well as project types such as new build, refurbishment and in-use.

The most sought after award, the people’s prize — the Your BREEAM Award — which gives members of the public the chance to vote for a BREEAM building they like most was given to the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante, Spain.

Other winning buildings include:

  • Education and Healthcare: Atlas Building, Eindhoven, Netherlands
  • Industrial: Fulfillment Center, Waalwijk, Netherlands
  • Mixed Use and Other Buildings Award joint winners: Energy Academy Europe, Groningen, Netherlands; and Royal Agio Cigars, Duizel, Netherlands
  • Office In-Use Award: Kings Place, London, U.K.
  • Office New Construction Award: Geelen Counterflow, Haelen, Netherlands
  • Office Refurbishment and Fit-Out Award: 80-100 Victoria Street, London, U.K.
  • Residential Award: Tribe Apartments, Manchester, U.K.
  • Retail In-Use Award: Heuvel, Eindhoven, Netherlands
  • Retail New Construction: Lidl Supermarket, Växjö, Sweden

The BREEAM/GRESB Awards for responsible investment were given to organizations that are demonstrating the strongest commitment to the use of building certifications in managing their portfolio. These are Altarea Cogedim, Bouwinvest REIM, CeGeREAL, Neinver SA, Société Foncière Lyonnaise, Steen & Ström, Unibail-Rodamco and Cromwell Property Group.

A personal achievement award was given to Christophe Garot of Unibail-Rodamco, for his valuable contribution to driving more sustainable real estate investment.

Also receiving awards on the night were energy consultant Sweco U.K., which was announced as BREEAM Assessor Company of the Year with individual Assessor of the Year awards given to: Dan McLellan, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, Herve Moal, ARP-Astrance and James Warne, Boom Collective.

The BREEAM sustainability assessment method for buildings and communities has issued more than 530,000 certificates and has a global reach of more than 70 countries.
