RECALL: Philips Energy Metal Halide Lamps May Explode

The product recall involves Philips Energy Advantage Ceramic Metal Halide Lamps model CDM330 and affects 256,000 units sold from May 2011 to March 2014

A recall on Philips Energy Advantage Ceramic Metal Halide Lamps have begun after its outer bulbs shattered, resulting in fire and laceration hazards. Twelve reports in total have been received by the company, involving lamps shattering since a previous recall in May 2016, according to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall number 17-100. Also occurring in the later rounds included incidents involving one fire. 

In total, the newly expanded recall affects 256,000 units, which adds to the 87,000 units previously recalled. The affected lamps are model CDM330 and were manufactured between May 2011 and March 2014. The 330W lamps were sold in clear and coated versions, as direct replacements for 400W quartz metal halide in magnetic ballast high-bay luminaires.
