How HP’s Boise Campus Implemented Sustainable Landscaping

The tech giant's Idaho facility is the first corporate campus certified with the SITES v2 rating system

By replacing non-indigenous grass with native grass, HP saves 82,900 cubic meters of water each year and reduces emissions by 90% at its Boise, ID, campus.

With changes to its landscaping, HP Inc.’s Boise Idaho Campus saves 82,900 cubic meters of water annually, has cut back emissions by 90% and reduced landscaping costs by 50%. These results have earned the campus Gold certification under the Sustainable SITES Initiative rating system after the company replaced non-indigenous grass with native grasses that require less maintenance and attract local pollinators.

The project is the first in Idaho to earn a SITES certification and is the first corporate campus in the world to be certified using SITES v2. HP collaborated with more than 10 local and national groups with its landscaping, which will reach full maturity by summer 2019.

“At HP, we strive to make life better for everyone everywhere – not just through technology, but through sustainability efforts within our operations and supply chain,” says Cynthia Rock, HP Head of Corporate Real Estate and Workplace Services. “Through this landscaping project, we’re using less water, producing less emissions and increasing bee production – ultimately protecting our planet for future generations.”
