When working with self-adhered roofing membranes, you typically have a weather-dependent window to make changes. Any temperature lower than 50 degrees Fahrenheit just hasn’t been tenable for major improvements.

CertainTeed has made strides with its Flintlastic SA self-adhered roof system, which can be installed in temperatures as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit. 

“We’ve always required that the system be installed at 50 degrees and warming, which is difficult for both distributors and contractors because it puts a window around your sales cycle,” says Abby Feinstein, product manager for commercial roofing at CertainTeed. “But Flintlastic SA is fast to go down and doesn’t require a torch or kettle.”

By taking what people like about self-adhered solutions and expanding it to temperatures as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit, the window for roofing improvements is wide open. CertainTeed performed field and lab tests to prove that the bond works when leveraging a Leister gun or hot welder on certain elements of the system like side laps and end-lap details.

Now able to work with Leister guns, Flintlastic SA is appropriate for use throughout the year and can be installed in temperatures as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
