The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed a beta version of its Healthy School Environments Assessment Tool. The tool was developed to help school districts determine the level of environmental health and safety of buildings through self-assessments.
The EPA Healthy School Environments website provides access to programs and resources aimed at helping facility managers, administrators, architects, engineers, and others prevent and resolve environmental issues. The Self Assessment Tool provides a database that contains a checklist, which is easily customizable to reflect state and local requirements and policies. The EPA welcomes input on the beta version of this tool until May 5, 2005. For more information on the Healthy School Environments Self Assessment Tool, visit (www.epa.gov/schools).
