Fiber Facts and Impacts
The performance of carpet – and thus the return on the owner’s investment in terms of service life, sustainability and maintenance – depends on the makeup and properties of its fiber.
According to the World Floor Covering Association, synthetic polymers are the most common fiber in carpet (more than 90%). And nylon is the most common of the synthetics (more than 75% of carpet) due to its superior appearance retention, low maintenance, and soil resistance. Nevertheless, not all nylon is the same.
