The Most Germ-Infested Place in Your Office Is...

Aug. 28, 2017

Nearly 75% of workers surveyed guessed incorrectly.

The office is a popular place to obtain germs and illnesses, but according to a new survey by OpenWorks, most workers do not know where the germiest place in the office is.

Three out of four workers surveyed in the July 2017 poll stated they believe the bathroom is the most vital place to keep clean.

It may seem like the obvious answer would be in the washroom, but the truth is that office desks contain the most germs that thrive and multiply exponentially in excess.

Computer keyboards are a big culprit, but the phone on an office desk is the worst, hosting more than 25,000 germs per square inch, whereas keyboards host 3,200 germs per square inch.

And as for toilet seats, the porcelain throne is routinely home to a measly 9 germs per square inch.

“We believe it’s important for everyone at a workplace to know where the germs are. A cleaner workplace is a more productive workplace,” says OpenWorks CEO Eric Roudi.

OpenWorks designed and analyzed this online survey of 50 employed adults across the NY/NJ/PA Metro Area.
