Efficiency Gains Seen in Better Buildings Progress Report 2017

May 25, 2017

Financing is often cited as a key barrier to energy efficiency, although in this report 37 Financial Allies have committed $7 billion in capital for efficiency projects.

More than 900 organizations across many diverse sectors are now part of the Better Buildings Initiative. These partners represent more than 13% of total U.S. commercial building space, about 12% of the U.S. manufacturing energy footprint and 125 state and local governments.

The U.S. Department of Energy recently released 2017 Better Buildings Progress Report to highlight the energy-efficiency progress made by the 345 leading public and private sector organizations.

These efforts have led to a combined 240 trillion Btus and an estimated $1.9 billion in cumulative energy and cost savings. The goal of the initiative is to make commercial, public, industrial, and residential buildings 20 percent more energy efficient over the next decade.
