Hilton First Hospitality Property to Earn SEP Designation

Jan. 14, 2016

DOE program drives energy efficiency, productivity improvements.

Three Hilton hotels have been named the first hospitality facilities to be certified under the DOE’s Superior Energy Performance (SEP) program, which drives improvements in building energy efficiency. The SEP program is available for all types of facilities that meet the ISO 50001 standard.

The Washington Hilton, Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, and Hilton Union Square San Francisco all earned SEP certification, with the Washington Hilton earning the Platinum designation as well, thanks to a verified 15.8% cut in energy consumption compared to the 2011 baseline. Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort and Hilton Union Square San Francisco both earned SEP Silver certification, with reductions of 8.4% and 6.3% respectively.

Participating organizations are required to install an energy management system and demonstrate better energy performance. After an independent audit, facilities are awarded either Silver, Gold, or Platinum certification. According to the DOE, facilities that are using the program have boosted energy performance by up to 30% over three years. Learn more about SEP here.
