Building security typically refers to the locks, surveillance and entryways inside a facility. What has become more of a risk than ever is not the physical components, but the non-physical ones in cybercrime.
“It is no longer enough for a building to be smart – it must now be cybersmart,” says a new whitepaper published jointly by Johnson Controls and Booz Allen Hamilton, a management and technology consulting and engineering firm.
The white paper, Cybersmart Buildings: Securing Your Investments In Connectivity And Automation, gives facility managers a line by line guide on how to protect their automation systems in the age of ever-developing smart building technologies.
Proper use of building automation systems can greatly reduce energy consumption, lower operating costs and create countless other data-driven solutions—but security should be at the forefront of any smart building operation.
“Research clearly demonstrates that cybersecurity is a critical need at a critical hour for buildings around the world,” says Bill Jackson, president, Johnson Controls Global Products. “As building technology and data converge, we must be increasingly vigilant.”
