The HON Company Outfits Omni San Diego with Versatile Workspace Solutions

April 21, 2005

Opened in April 2004, the Omni San Diego Hotel is a 32-story, luxury hotel connected via a sky bridge to Petco Park. Nestled in the heart of the historic Gaslamp Quarter, across the street from the recently renovated convention center, the new hotel is just moments away from the city’s top sites and attractions, and is proving to be a popular destination for San Diego visitors.

At the heart of the busy hotel is the sales department - with a staff of 15 representatives constantly on the phones in a small workspace. The Omni San Diego found they needed an office furniture solution for the sales department that would help create personalized, private work areas; complement the hotel’s stylish image; and alleviate the mounting noise problem.

“We have such a small space, you can’t help but be distracted by other people’s voices,” said Meredith Gee, sales manager for the Omni San Diego Hotel. “We needed something to help reduce the noise and give us the privacy to focus on our work.”

The HON Company’s Initiate® Panel and Desking System proved to be the ideal solution for the Omni San Diego Hotel. A smart investment for any small- to mid-sized workspace, Initiate offers flexibility, privacy, and a distinctive style without a premium price tag.

The HON Company provided the hotel’s sales department with individual workspaces that approach the look and feel of private office environments by using Initiate panels and worksurfaces along with one of the latest additions to their full line of panel systems, the Initiate sliding privacy door. Allowing users to enclose their workstations, the privacy door gives the Omni San Diego Hotel’s busy sales force the option of simply “closing their door” whenever they need to reduce outside distractions.

“They really do help block the noise,” said Gee. “And they prevent people from interrupting your work. The door lets people know I’m busy and gives me the privacy I need to focus.”

In addition, The HON Company provided the sales department new task-intensive seating and lateral filing storage solutions to improve workspace comfort and productivity.

The HON Company also provided a range of solutions to other areas of the hotel - from the general manager’s office suite to back-of-the-house workspaces to the hotel’s business center. In all areas, the Omni San Diego Hotel wanted a look that would complement the professional, stylish environment of the new building, plus use space efficiently for maximum productivity.

In the general manager’s office suite, The HON Company recommended the Park Avenue Collection® - an executive wood desk and conference room series that offers warm, rich veneers; multiple detail options; and modular storage with an elegant, design-conscious aesthetic.

For the hotel’s business center and back-of-the-house operations, such as kitchen and engineering management offices, The HON Company chose to install Initiate free-standing panels to help organize space efficiently, aid workflow, and enhance the flexibility and overall look of each area.

“The HON Company is a great partner that has proven it can handle our needs,” said Corporate Director of Procurement Rick Trapane.
