Public District Library

The renovation and expansion of an existing library was designed for a contemporary look and a scale that responded well to nearby homes. The addition has metal siding and a standing-seam roof with a sealed, troweled stucco finish on sculptural facades. Large areas of low-e, UV-resistant glass were also used to create an open, welcoming look. Fritted glass is used on some exposures. Recycled rubber sheet goods are the most common flooring material. Furniture and counters use high-quality laminates. Seats and tables use lightweight metal legs. A bioswale filters rainwater from diversion spouts.

Government Center

An original, single-story structure completed in 1978 was stripped down to the concrete floor, roof slabs and concrete columns to make way for a new multi-level building. Additional stairs and restroom towers were built at the east and west ends of the structure and a restroom and elevator tower on the south. To avoid disturbing nearby historic buildings, micro-piles and augercast piling were used. The brick exterior and traditional windows complement the historic buildings. The interior combines mahogany paneling with warm colors on walls and ceilings.
