IFMA Premieres New FM Credential

April 7, 2011

FMA is now offering a new Sustainability Facility Professional credential for people with a foundation of FM knowledge.

Instructor-led courses will become available in summer 2011, and the self-study version of the program was released in March. Course areas include Strategy and Alignment for Sustainable Facility Management, Managing Sustainable Facilities, and Operating Sustainable Facilities. Students will learn to improve their facilities’ sustainability in energy, water, materials and resources, workplace management, indoor environmental quality, quality of services, waste, and site impact.

The curriculum also includes how to present a business case for sustainability initiatives, evaluate green efforts financially, and track and report progress.

The credential is "more than a building certification and ratings system," says Andrea Sanchez, editor-in-chief of IFMA’s Facility Management Journal. "The SFP bridges the gap between the professional and the property, teaching facility managers how to take sustainability concepts and not only implement them, but align them with their corporate strategy."
