www.thecha.orgFor more than 60 years, the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) has played a key role in providing housing options for low- and moderate-income residents in the city of Chicago. One of the largest public housing agencies in the nation, providing assisted housing for about 134,000 area residents, the CHA consists of federally funded family developments, senior housing, scattered site housing, and city/state housing located throughout Chicago, as well as Section 8 vouchers disseminated through its housing choice voucher program. According to information from its Chicago offices, the CHA owns/oversees approximately 50 million square feet in 2,300 multi-family buildings. Facilities dollars to be spent in 2002 include: $350 million in Capital expenditures, as well as $150 million in Operational expenditures. Approximately 4 million square feet of modernized space will be completed in 2002. With a philosophy to "lower our voices and raise our sights," the CHA is successfully working toward a national model of public housing that will make every Chicagoan proud.
