When HydroVantage valves flush a toilet or urinal, the hydrogenerator turbine built into the valve creates power from the flowing water and stores it in a rechargeable cell to power subsequent flushes. The valve becomes self-sustainable after only a few activations, unlike other hydrogenerator valves, which can require 25 or more activations per day. Sensors monitor traffic and ambient light in the restroom, which eliminates false flushing. A battery backup system can supplement power during downtime.
