Business Recycling Rules Now Enforced in New York City
July 31, 2017
Beginning August 1st, 2017, business recycling rules will be enforced.
As part of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's initiative to reduce commercial waste by 90% by 2030, business recycling rules will be enforced, requiring all businesses in NYC to recycle metal; glass bottles and jars; rigid plastics; beverage cartons; and paper and cardboard.
Since 1992 all businesses in NYC have been required to separate recyclables from garbage.
In 2016, DSNY simplified the business recycling rules to increase commercial recycling.
In addition to lowering costs by avoiding common sanitation violations, businesses can benefit by reducing their carbon footprint, maintaining a clean property, and increasing their competitive edge.
